Who we are
The Student Government Association, or SGA, represents the interests of the student body on campus. We are comprised of nine executive branches and the St. Olaf Student Senate, and offer a wide variety of leadership and volunteering opportunities.
My name is Andy Nelson, and I am this year's SGA President! I use he/him/his pronouns and am a current Junior. I am a triple major in Asian Studies, Chinese, and Economics with a concentration in International Relations! My hobbies include making the best banana pancakes, maintaining my bonsai trees, and playing the piano. The best part about being on SGA is having the incredible opportunity to meet, work with, and represent the voices of fellow students at St. Olaf.

Chief Technology Officer
My name is Carter Schafer (he/him) and I am the Chief Technology Officer on SGA. I’m a sophomore Computer Science major with a concentration in Environmental Studies. A fun fact about myself is that Jimmy Carter kissed me on the head when I was a baby. I enjoy playing the banjo, fiddle, and other instruments, as well as spending time outside. I'd have to say my favorite thing about SGA is spending time in the OSA with everyone. There's always something interesting happening!
Chief Financial Officer
My name is Quinn Truax (he/him/his), and I serve as the SGA CFO. I’m a Junior chemistry major with a concentration in Stats/Data Science. Before joining the SGA exec team, I was on SAC for 2.5 years, working on Off-campus Events and Senior Days. My current favorite campus activities are my nightly Pause pizza with friends, zipping to class on my bicycle, and unwinding a little bit with a good book/Reddit. A fun fact about me: My Spotify Unwrapped just came back. I listened to 78.5k minutes, which assuming I sleep 8 hours a night, means that approximately 22% of my waking hours in the past year were spent listening to music.
Marketing and Comm Director
Hi! I'm Jess (she/her), and I'm currently a senior at St. Olaf! I'm majoring in English with concentrations in Media Studies, Management Studies, and Race & Ethnic Studies, and I plan on going into marketing once I graduate. My love for writing and marketing is what drew me to become a part of SGA, and it's been amazing to be able to meet and work with such an intelligent and kind group of people. Outside of SGA, I enjoy being in Ole Choir, interning at Taylor Corporation in Eden Prairie, hosting themed get-togethers with my friends, AND CRUSHING THE COMPETITION at local Trivia Nights :)
I'm a senior and use she/her/hers pronouns. I'm majoring in Political Science with concentrations in International Relations and Race & Ethnic Studies and I'm the SGA Executive Assistant. I also play cello in the St. Olaf Orchestra and 22:30. My favorite thing about SGA is the sense of community.
Hi! I'm Fenton (he/him), and I serve as the BORSC Coordinator this year. I find BORSC's work incredibly rewarding, and I'm happy to help connect students to administrators and push for changes students support. I'm a sophomore computer science major, and when I'm not in the OSA, I like to spend time outdoors. I went on a road trip last summer and summited Mount Washington in New Hampshire, and I visited some cool spots in Acadia National Park in Maine. I see a lot of potential in SGA this year, and I'm happy to listen to any student concerns to help determine how to improve St. Olaf.
My name is Mbuyisile Tlhwaele and I am the DISC Coordinator! I am a junior and majoring in Economics, I use she/her/hers pronouns! This is my first year in SGA - although I have spent a lot of time in the OSA eating their popcorn and candy since freshman year! I enjoy working with multicultural organizations and was in exec for one for two years - so I know the ins and outs of being an org leader thus supporting them makes my job easier. One fun fact about me is that I consider myself a Presence! expert - you can ask Jen to confirm this! My favorite thing about SGA is definitely the relationship that exec has - building new friendships and just having people who are always there. My hobbies include listening to a lot of music, I walk to class plugged in all the time - but you can always disturb me - watching 9-1-1 although I hate blood or anything that involves murder mystery. And spending time with my friends and family - usually over FaceTime.
Lion’s Pause Co-Coordinator
My name is Nathaniel Chi (he/him/his) and I am one of the Pause Co-Coordinators. I am a senior this year and majoring in Japanese and Asian Studies. I had worked in the Pause as a kitchen staff for two years and Kitchen Manager for one year before becoming the Co-Coordinator. While not working in the Pause, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends doing various activities including attending sporting events, playing video games, and jamming out to music. One of my favorite things beside constantly taking popcorn from the OSA is the bonding and development that we get to do as coordinators. Seeing people develop and grow is one of my passions.
Lion’s Pause Co-Coordinator
Sannah (she/they pronouns, class of '22) is one of the Pause Co-Coordinators. Sannah is majoring in Philosophy and an individual major in Peace & Conflict Studies and concentration in International Relations. When they're not living in the Pause, Sannah enjoys cooking, writing, stargazing, hiking, long conversations over tea, skiing, skating, singing, playing piano, and getting cozy with a good book or show. Sannah's favorite thing about SGA is the intentional student development. SGA bonding activities, reading and learning about the functioning of the school, and the encouragement to connect with students SGA serves have all reminded Sannah what it takes to embody the kind of leader they hope to be. Fun fact: The first time Sannah had a PB & J sandwich was in college!
My name is Camille Stich and I am the Volunteer Network Coordinator! I am a senior this year and I am majoring in Psychology with concentrations in Neuroscience and Linguistics. I use she/her/hers pronouns and joined Volunteer Network at the end of my freshmen year. I am also the vice president of service for the co-ed fraternity Alpha Phi Omega on campus and work at Forget Me Not Florist downtown. I got addicted to volunteering when I needed the service hours as a senior in high school, and now I am completely involved in the volunteering community. As Volunteer network Coordinator I fund the volunteer organizations on campus, as well as put on events such as Halloween for Kids and Paws for Finals. In my free time, I like face-timing my two dogs, listening to true crime podcasts, and watching movies with friends. Please stop in my office hours if you want to get involved in volunteering! I also have candy at my desk. :)
My name is Jess Hollister and I am the SOC Coordinator! I use she/her/hers pronouns and I am in my final year at St. Olaf. I have a double major in nursing and gender & sexuality studies, and I've spent all four of my years here on student government. I've loved getting to meet new people within the SGA Executive team, and my main passion for SOC is the chance to interact with a wide range of people and get to support all the fun, new clubs. I want to be able to recognize every single Ole on campus by the end of this year so stop in to talk to me in the OSA/BC 108! My office hours are on Oleville but I do *all* of my homework at my SOC desk so stop in *whenever*. A fun fact about me is that I paint my nails around 9pm every Wednesday night, and my hobbies include watching Cincinnati Bengals games each Sunday, eating Top the Tater and ruffle potato chips every night before I fall asleep, and Facetiming my parents most everyday so that I can ask them to put my dog on the phone.

I am majoring in Psychology and History with an emphasis in Public History and a concentration in Gender and Sexuality studies. While I have been a member of the Student Activities Committee for the last four years, this is the first year I am acting as SAC Coordinator! Over the last four years, I have met some of my favorite friends through SAC. I love the community we have built in our committee in addition to the energy we bring to our events! Outside of the OSA, I am also passionate about my work in SARN (the sexual assault resource network) and Ole Thrift. I love to thrift, knit, and listen to podcasts and audiobooks (I'm currently wrapping up "Crying in HMart" by Michelle Zauner).
My name is Lily and I am the MEC Coordinator! I use she/her pronouns and I am a senior at St. Olaf. I major in French and Political Science with a concentration in International Relations. My office hours are 10-11 am Tuesdays and Thursdays and 2-3 pm on Wednesdays in the OSA, so feel free to stop by! I love going to concerts and listening to music, but I also really enjoy drawing, painting, and re-reading any of Sally Rooney's novels.
