English as a Second Language

St. Olaf’s English Second Language Club offers two opportunities to volunteer in ESL settings.

At the Faribault Education Center volunteers support adults learning English as a Second Language.

Waano, an after-school tutoring program in Faribault, provides mentorship and homework help for Somali elementary, middle, and high school students. With a large and growing immigrant population, Faribault has a great need for ESL teaching assistants. Classes are often too large for one teacher to work by themselves, so our volunteers assist them in providing students with more one-on-one and small group interactions in the classroom. Currently, Waano supports students Monday-Thursday from 3:30 pm-6:30 pm, and volunteers can sign up for one or more days a week.
