Statement of motivation
I have been looking for a way to connect more with campus, so I think this position would be a good opportunity to do so. I want to connect with all students, but especially the students of color on campus, international students, students with disabilities or limitations, and LGBTQ+ students. I have many friends who belong to these groups (as do I), and I do think there are some simple ways to make sure this academic year is as great as it can be! While every student deserves a voice, I think these campus communities should have representatives in SGA who are relatable and compassionate to the unique issues they face on campus. I think connecting with the people in your class greatly improves the experience on campus overall, so I think this opportunity would be the perfect way to do so.
As much as I have seen the campus make strides to improve the student experience, I want to be a part of that improvement across a more diverse demographic on campus. I want not only to enhance the student experience overall, but to individualize that experience to an array of students.
What's an initiative you'd like to see on campus?
In my first year, I took advantage of quite a few of the resources on campus and I really want to encourage others to do the same. From the Taylor Center, to CAAS, to Boe House, I really want to emphasize to the class of 2024 how important these resources are. The initiative I want to enact would highlight campus resources by students to other students. Putting together posters, emails, videos, flyers, and displays with interaction from other students on campus could encourage other students to utilize the resources more effectively. Right now, most awareness of resources I see is put out by faculty and staff, but the added student involvement could encourage increased interaction.
What are three words your friends would use to describe you?
Reliable, Compassionate, and Positive
