Breakfast Tutoring

Description: Tutor elementary school students, especially in reading or math.

Time: Monday thru Thursday 7:30-8:15 a.m at Greenvale Park Elementary School OR 8:00-8:45 a.m at Bridgewater Elementary School.

College Buddy

Description: Laura Baker Services provides residential and educational services for people with developmental disabilities. For the College buddy program, each student is paired with a client and can participate in activities they enjoy (biking, bowling, crafts, walks, etc.). There will be seasonal events volunteers can help in, and the volunteers should feel free to set up one time events, such as movie nights or a kickball game. Transportation can be arranged by the St. Olaf Disability Awareness House.

Elementary School Tutor

Description: o Tutor elementary school children, especially in math or reading. May assist in classroom or on homework.

Evening Homework Help

Description: Tutor children in grades 4-12 at Greenvale Park Elementary School, Media Center (700 Lincoln Parkway). All subject areas are covered, but youth typically need most help with math, Spanish, and social studies.

High School Homework Help

Description: Tutor high school freshmen and sophomores, typically in biology, chemistry, geometry or algebra at Northfield High School, Room S102 (1400 Division St. S).

Main Street Mentor

Description: One-on-one mentorship with a high school or middle school student. Mentorships are often paired on a similar interest, homework help needs, or simply a general match.

Middle School Youth Center Tutor

Description: Tutor middle school youth typically in math, spanish and social studies at Northfield Middle School, Room 154 (2200 Division St. S).

Youth Club or Workshop Leader

Description: Lead a club or workshop for Northfield Youth. Opportunities include Art Project, which has previously done hemp necklaces, glass beads, tape sculptures, book making. Photo Club, where students develop film in the Key's darkroom, go on photo shoots, and get to learn their cameras and photography better through various assignments. Writing Workshop is guided by Olivia Frey.

Time: Art Project meets every Tuesday at 6:30 and runs for about 2 hours. Photo Club meets every Tuesday at 5:30pm. Writing Workshop meets every Sunday 3:00 until 5:00pm.

It is the mission of the Volunteer Network (VN) to provide a variety of volunteer opportunities to St. Olaf College students. We strive to serve the campus community by empowering students to understand the impact they can have in the lives of others and promote self-fulfillment through lifelong service. VN will accomplish its goals by establishing cooperative relationships with the local communities, providing a supportive network for volunteers, and advocating for those seeking service.
